Niger: city of Tahoua transformed for national festival

Solar lighting in pride of place on major new road link

Fonroche Lighting signs new contract with Niger

On 18 December 2017, it was the turn of Tahoua, capital of the Ader region, to host the country’s national festival, which is held in a different location each year. This 59th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of the Niger was a chance for President Mahamadou Issoufou to pursue his commitment to modernize the region’s major cities. And in 2017, it was his home city of Tahoua which benefited from the customary modernization work, bringing a new quality of life to residents. At the festival, the Prime Minister stated: “Tahoua Sakola is all about innovation, economic dynamism and peaceful coexistence.”

The modernization project included the construction of a new link road. And its entire 10-kilometre length is lit by solar-powered streetlights from Fonroche. Some 500 completely off-grid light points make up the new road lighting solution for the city, inaugurated by the President himself as part of the festival. Our solar streetlights, with their powerful LED illumination, ensure the highest levels of safety for motorists and other users of this new road at night. Sized to provide a uniform spread of light, the Fonroche poles make the most of the high-performance LED technology for effective, sustainable illumination.

Reflecting its commitment to innovation, Niger turned to Fonroche Lighting for this major project. This new collaboration builds on the many successful projects already delivered in Africa, from lighting for the Ouagadougou–Lomé road link in Burkina Faso to Dakar’s new international airport and the world’s largest solar plant in Morocco.
