In northern Cameroon, villages without access to electricity get lighting at last
Fonroche Lighting recently installed 46 off-grid solar streetlights in the town of Mayo-Oulo, northern Cameroon.
Mayo-Oulo is a sprawling district in Cameroon's North Region, part of the Mayo-Louti administrative department and comprising more than 80 villages. The solar streetlights have been installed across the area to meet the needs of the local population and support social and economic development.
Solar-powered lighting for the people of Cameroon
Mayo-Oulo's main intersections were given priority for the streetlights, along with areas that have no access to electricity where people tend to gather.
The new streetlights have been a boost to local life. Children, teenagers and adults alike can now continue their activities which previously were limited to daylight hours only – making a world of difference for small stall holders, for example. Schoolchildren are also enjoying the benefit, as they can now study under the powerful streetlights. Our latest news
